Dimensionless Numbers
Up ]

The dimensionless numbers, Nh, Nq, Np, and Eff describing the performance of pumper impellers have been shown and discussed in another presentation.  All pumpers can be described by these 4 numbers. Like pump curves, SX pumper curves are characteristic of the impeller design.  Each impeller design will have its own characteristic curves.  The curves are identical, when done without dimensions, for the same pumper design, regardless of size of equipment.

Hydraulic efficiency, Eff, is a parameter that helps describe the performance of a pumper design.  Usually, the higher the efficiency, the smaller the entrainment and the droplets are more uniform and larger.  Low efficiencies typically mean the system will have high entrainments and does not operate as good as it can. Since hydraulic efficiency is determined from Nh, Nq and Np, each impeller design has its own characteristic efficiency curve.

Each impeller design will have its own characteristic hydraulic efficiency curves. Ref. 29

These were derived by scale-down lab experiment.  How can you use CFD instead of lab experimenting?  Please continue.
